Beauty in focus

It always takes time to come out of your shell with something new. For me, photography has always been a point of interest and intrigue. Photos inspire me to want to travel and love and live so it would give me the greatest please to be able to give that to other people too. Trying to keep things in focus and yet living well beyond the confines of a lens.

Now I’m only just beginning to learn but I can tell you that there isn’t anything quite like the feeling of looking at a photo and seeing it capture exactly what you wanted in the most beautiful way. The hardest part is learning to be confident enough to try new things, trust the artistic instinct and to embrace the great work you’ve done even if others are better at it than you.

Musical Inspiration: Let Me Down Gently

And so she returns. I have spent the last 5 years listening to La Roux’s previous album on repeat. Loving it. Cherishing it. And praying that she soon return with new music to grace us with. July 7th the new album arrives and I can’t wait. There’s no one quite like La Roux. Her voice really fills you with a special feeling and she conveys so well the emotional tone of her songs. Such a joy to listen to especially this new melodic number.

Let me down gently,
That’s what I think I need!
But when you let me down gently,
It still feels it hard, hard!
Turn me into someone good,
That’s what I really need!
Tel me that I’m someone good
So we’re not so far apart, apart
I hope it doesn’t seem like I’m young, foolish and green
Let me in for a minute,
You’re not my life but I want you in it!
Aha, aha, aha, ahaSet me up I’m slowly, that’s what you do to me
Oh you set me up slowly
Now I can’t come down, down!
Let me down gently,
That’s what I think you need.
But when I let you down gently
And you try to hide your frowns, frowns!
I hope it doesn’t seem like I’m young, foolish and green
Let me in for a minute
You’re not my life but I want you in it.
And I hope it’s sinking
Left behind your perfect skin
There’s a part of you that’s free
And I know that there’s a place for me!Let me down gently,
That’s what I think I need!
But when you let me down gently,
It still feels it hard, hard!
Turn me into someone good,
That’s what I really need!
Tel me that I’m someone good
So we’re not so far apart, apart
(Let me down, let me down, let me down)

And I hope it doesn’t seem
Like I’m young and foolish and green
Let me in for a minute
You’re not my life, but I want you in it!
And I hope it’s sinking in
Left behind your perfect skin
There’s a part of you that’s free
And I know there’s a place for me.

Musical Inspiration: Comme des Enfants

I had the pleasure of seeing Coeur de Pirate last year at the Festival de la Francophonie and was introduced to a world of beautiful, melodic, adorable Quebec french music, a first in my musical taste. One of my favourite songs she has done caught the attention of a DJ who took it to an incredible new level for me. This song like every other one that I post on here evoke emotions in me and a feeling of bliss. French music in general tends to have a different feel, whether it be for my love of the language or its foreign nature. There is something so powerful about lyrics in another language that strike a chord with you, makes you realize that no matter the language barriers people across the world have similar experiences.

This remix has been on my repeat list since I first heard it in February and I just can’t get enough of it.  Such a beautiful song, beautiful lyrics and a terrific remix.

Alors tu vois, comme tout se mele
Et du coeur a tes levres, je deviens un casse-tte
Ton rire me crie, de te lacher

Musical Inspiration: Shock to Your System

As much as musical inspiration often lifts the spirits sometimes it accents a tough situation and makes you feel it a little bit stronger, in this case so that you can have a serious conversation with yourself to realize what you really are. What you are is lonely. Firstly I’d like to itterate that this Heartthrob album is on the top of my list of the most repeated right now. Tegan and Sara have evolved throughout the years and it has resulted in this amazing series of beautiful music. This song in particular though has struck a chord in me. Whatever I am going through right now this is exactly what I need.

This song for me sounds like a personal conversation with oneself about how you realize exactly how you’re feeling when something tough has happened (particularily being separated from the one you love), and that this has been tough, and that it is entirely okay to be feeling this way. That shock to your system has effected you tremendously but you will get over it because you realize now how you feel and can face it head on. What you are is lonely. Couldn’t have said it better myself. Now time to figure out how to heal better and at your own pace.

Get out and live your life.

You seem like you’re so restless, young at heart

Who gave you reason?

You should be out driving people wild

Who gave you reason?

You got a shock to your system

Knocked your heart right out of sync

You’re only meant to hurt once in a while

Who gave you reason?

You’re only meant to cry once in a while

Who gave you reason?

You got a shock to your system

Pull yourself out of it

I know that shock to your system

Knocked your heart right out of sync

What you are
What you are
What you are
What you are

What you are is lonely
What you are
What you are is lonely
What you are

You must rely on love once in a while

To give you reason

You must rely on me once in a while

To give you reason

You got a shock to your system

Pull yourself out of it

I know that shock to your system

Knocked your heart right out of sync

What you are
What you are
What you are
What you are

What you are is lonely
What you are
What you are is lonely
What you are

What you are is lonely
What you are is lonely
What you are is lonely

An Explanation for Musical Inspiration

Enjoying music is one constant that governs my life. Music influences what I feel, reflects what I desire, and expresses my emotions sometimes without me realizing that’s how I feel. Unfortunately, I have no musical ability of my own and so therefore I immerse myself into listening to the music and soaking it up to enjoy over and over again. My mind is a sponge for lyrics and melodies that I find intruiging or emotionally charged. Music for me is a huge part of what inspires and motivates me. One song can change the way I see a situation or swing my mood from sad to happy to get me through a tough day.

Music does have a silent power – though it’s power is in it’s abolishment of silence entirely.

Seeing as this blog is all about what inspires me and my life is heavily influenced by whatever song or album I have on repeat, I have decided to include these Musical Inspiration posts to help communicate my love of music to others. Music reflects particular times in my life and it’s always nice to look back and remember what happened based on the musical attachment you have to that time. I hope that this will help me remember exactly why I loved what I do so much and recall what happened in my life at the time.

Music = Power

Musical Inspiration: No Cars Go

Every once in a while there comes a song that gives you and unexplainable rush of feelings and emotions all built into one beautiful selection of musical melodies and lyrics. For me this song (and many other) Arcade Fire songs does just that.

Many people have interpreted this song in many different ways. For me I listen to it and think that we all know that there are places in our lives that we don’t venture towards because we are scared of what that means or the possibility of what could happen. It’s between the click of the light and the start of a dream where we get held up, that’s where no cars go because we’re too afraid of the unknown. So for me this song is an inspiration to take risks and push myself to places that I find scary and foreign, to venture where no cars go.

We know a place where no planes go
We know a place where no ships go
Hey!
No cars go
Hey!
No cars go
Where we know

We know a place where no spaceships go
We know a place where no subs go
Hey!
No cars go
Hey!
No cars go
Where we know
Hey!
Us kids know
Hey!
No cars go

Go!
No go!

Between the click of the light and the start of the dream
Between the click of the light and the start of the dream

Little babies?
Let’s go!

Women and children?
Let’s go!

Old folks?
Let’s go!

Don’t know where we’re going
