I’m not even going to lie when I first heard Lana Del Ray I was confused and a little but off but the more I listen to her songs the more I enjoy them and especially her style. It’s hypnotic. Especially this song Blue Jeans when remixed by the awesome RAC. Repeat!
I love seeing outfits like this. It looks simple and sophisticated but with an extra touch suddenly it’s edgy and a little risky fashion wise. I would never have paired this graphic looking sweater with these beautiful brown pants but look what happens when you take a little risk. It’s simple and elegant but cool in a “I’m not even trying” way. Fashion when it’s simple is boring, it’s the risk taking that’s so inspiring (whether it pays off or not).
Okay so you know what 95% of the time I love hanging out with guys. They are laid-back, fun, open and make you feel comfortable on any regular day. Guys make awesome friends. But you know what once in a while you just need one of those girls days where you and a few girls go out and shop or get margaritas and talk about useless girl stuff and just be feminine for a while.
Girls days or even girls nights can honestly be the most fun sometimes. You get to go out and be ridiculous with your best girlfriends and come back appreciating the boys for everything they give you friendship wise as well as respecting exactly what girlfriends give you in a friendship too. Frankly those kind of outings are almost therapeutic. You know that when you’re out with your girlies there is no judging just getting every little tidbit of animosity and anger off your chest no matter how big or small and embracing the feminine stereotype.
Why not right? Life’s all about balance and these outings are definitely a huge part of it for me. Surrounded by testosterone for too long and you start to lose it a bit. Same goes for being with girls all the time. It’s when you find the balance that I find I’m at my happiest. Important in my books.
This past Saturday I had the chance to attend big music fest 2012 in Belleville. Yeah Belleville doesn’t exactly sound like a place that would have an amazing lineup or famous performers but as it turned out the line up was out of this world. It was an all Canadian festival and were heard from the likes of the new cities, dragonette, Mariana’s trench, arkells, the sheep dogs, metric and three days grace. Good lord did they break the “Canadians have no musical talent” stereotype. It was AMAZING.
Aside from the music there was another terrific part to the concert which is true for any concert : band t-shirts. You can look at a band’s website and gawk at the merchandise and know that you could purchase but it’s not the same without a story behind it. I think that’s why I absolutely adore band shirts. They are always the best part of the post-concert because it’s like you are taking a piece away from it with you. A chance to relive it in the future down the road every single time you pull it out of a drawer.
LOVE THEM. Solid investment. You have to love the power of song being relived.
I am a long time lover of Metric. They have given us some amazing songs over the past few years and with the emergence of their single Youth Without Youth over a month ago I knew they were back for another round. As of yesterday they have blessed us with yet another wonderfully crafted album that keeps to the Metric vibe and feeling. I was a bit nervous with the news from the band that this was going to be a self produced album but they pulled it off. It sounds a touch more organic than their other albums, maybe a little softer, but it’s beautiful.
At first listen I wasn’t very impressed… probably because I was on a bus paying absolutely no attention to the music as I was on my way to work. The second time through I was by myself and I was realizing song by song that I knew this was going to be an album on repeat. Needless to say I found one of my summer albums for 2012 and I can guarantee I listened to this album start to finish at least 6 times today.
Artist: Metric
Album: Synthetica
There was one disappointing song on this album. I was looking forward to it the most because it was called Wanderlust which is one of my inspirational-seize-the-world-by-the-horns words. It did not deliver. It’s the only collaboration on the album as far as I can tell and boy does that voice and song style not fit well. That may be my only gripe about this album expect for I wish it was longer.
So taken a listen to this near perfect work of musical talent and artistry. True to Metric’s style this one will definitely be well received this summer.
We’re all the time confined to fit the mold But I won’t ever let them make a loser of my soul Hey, I’m not Synthetica, oh I’ll keep the life that I’ve got, oh – Synthetica by Metric
Gift Giving may be one of the most fulfilling things for me. Some people love receiving gifts, some people don’t like gifts at but I really enjoy giving gifts. It’s a gamble that’s for sure, you don’t quite know if you are going to get something that someone will enjoy or if it will be exactly what they were hoping for.
The best for me is when I am doing something a little more creative. being inventive with a gift that works together in some way is always so cool and people can tell that you put a lot of effort into it. It’s such a rewarding experience.
